Palestinian militant group Hamas has released a statement urging US President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration to make ending the war in Gaza a top priority.

The statement comes amid reports that Trump recently advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the military conflict before his inauguration on January 20, following his electoral victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.

“In light of the early results showing Donald Trump winning the U.S. presidential election,” Hamas responded to the outcome, emphasizing that they expect Trump to heed the calls made by the U.S. public for over a year regarding Israeli aggression in Gaza.

The *Times of Israel* reported that Trump's suggestion to end the conflict was initially conveyed to Netanyahu during a meeting at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Florida resort, in July.

The statement from Hamas outlined several specific demands, urging the U.S. to "take serious action to stop the genocidal war and aggression against our Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank."

The militant group also called for an end to "aggression against the brotherly Lebanese people" and urged the U.S. to stop providing "military support and political cover to the Zionist entity." Hamas further requested that the U.S. recognize what it defines as the "legitimate rights of our people."

The current U.S. administration, under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, has largely followed a pro-Israel policy. However, the White House has occasionally issued statements of concern over certain actions by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In October, President Biden called for a ceasefire just before the IDF began military operations in Lebanon.
