Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has been ruled out of the third One-Day International (ODI) against Afghanistan as well as the upcoming Test series against the West Indies due to a groin strain he sustained after the second ODI in Sharjah.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made the announcement through a press release just ahead of the third and final ODI, which is currently tied 1-1.
The press release stated:
"Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has suffered a groin strain, which will keep him out of today’s third and final ODI against Afghanistan in Sharjah, as well as the Test series in the West Indies later this month. Shanto sustained the injury during the second ODI last Saturday and had to leave the field. A subsequent MRI confirmed the nature of the injury.
BCB’s Senior Physician, Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, provided the following update: 'Shanto underwent an MRI in Sharjah yesterday. We have received the team physio’s report and the scan report, which has confirmed a Grade II strain on his left groin. This will require a period of rest and rehabilitation. He has been ruled out of the third ODI against Afghanistan and will also be unavailable for the Test series in the West Indies. We will reassess his condition after two weeks. He will return home from the UAE to continue his rehab.'"
